About St Vincent de Paul Society

For more than 170 years we have been providing practical and compassionate support to people across Victoria whose daily struggles can include putting food on the table, paying essential utilities and ensuring their children remain at school to obtain an education.

Our organisation provides many services and programs, including soup vans, education programs, home visitation programs and VincentCare Victoria (VCV), which assist some of Victoria’s most vulnerable communities, such as people experiencing homelessness, the housing crisis and family violence, and the elderly.

Little bit about the role

This role sits within the Financial Accounting team and is responsible for managing the organisation’s financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and supporting accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting across the Group. The role works collaboratively with the team to deliver outcomes across multiple entities and a range of activities including banking, leasing, fixed assets, monthly and statutory reporting, audit, tax compliance and budgeting.

Activities are allocated and rotated over time to support individual and team development, with the initial focus on banking, leasing, fixed assets and administration.

Your responsibilities

  • Manage leasing, banking and fixed asset accounting in compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Complete daily and monthly reconciliations and support accurate month-end reporting
  • Support cashflow forecasting and reporting to ensure liquidity and timely payments
  • Assist with statutory reporting, external audit and annual financial statements
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and capital expenditure reporting
  • Work collaboratively across Finance and the wider organisation to resolve queries and improve processes

About you

You are confident and articulate in engaging with peers and stakeholders and bring strong written and verbal communication skills. You take an analytical, pragmatic and outcomes-focused approach to problem solving, are client-focused on your approach to service delivery and can communicate complex financial information to a non-financial audience. You can prioritise and manage time effectively, work independently and as part of a team and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes within allocated timeframes.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a related field
  • CPA/CA qualified or in progress
  • Financial Accounting experience in a mid to large sized organisation including multi entity and shared services
  • Understanding finance related policies and procedures to support organisation compliance requirements
  • Working with banks to manage bank guarantees, term deposits, account establishment, account and authority administration and reporting
  • Accounting for capital expenditure including WIP for projects or construction
  • Accounting for leases – property and equipment (under AASB16)
  • Working level knowledge of preparation of statutory financial statements in compliance with accounting standards
  • Experience with ERP systems such as MS Dynamics 365 Business Central and the Microsoft suite
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and intermediate to advanced Excel skills

Why work for us?  We offer

  • Salary packaging, sometimes called salary sacrificing is a huge attraction here! It is a popular way of providing employees in the community sector with tax benefits over and above their salary. It means the real value of a salary package can be significantly higher than the nominal value.
  • We make an incredible difference in the lives of over 300,000 people every year.
  • We believe in families, so we like to provide a family-friendly environment in which to work.
  • We offer a place where you know you are contributing to an organisation committed to helping others. We are passionate about #SocialJustice.
  • Hybrid working model.
